Uterine tumors are noncancerous (benign) growths that develop in the muscular wall of the uterus. Other than, while tumor do not always cause symptom, their size and location can lead to problem for some women, including pain and heavy bleeding. However, knowing the risk factor and talking them with doctor may help more informed lifestyle and health care choice. There are several risk factor of uterine tumor:

• Age

Uterine tumor more often occurs in women over 50 to 60.

• Obesity

Fatty tissue in women who are overweight will produce additional estrogen, a sex hormones which can increase the risk of uterine tumor. The higher body mass index will become increase the risk to get the uterine tumor.

• Race

The white women are more likely to develop uterine tumor than black women.

• Genetics

Uterine tumor may run in families where colon tumor is heredity. Women in families with heredity non-polyposis colorectal cancer, or lynch syndrome, have a higher risk of uterine tumor.

• Other health conditions

The women who have diabetes or endometrial hyperplasia may increase risk of uterine tumor.

• Other Tumor

Women who have had breast, colon, or ovarian tumor have an increased risk of uterine tumor.

• Tamoxifen

Women whose taking the drug tamoxifen to prevents or treat breast tumor have an increased the risk of developing uterine tumor. However, the benefits of tamoxifen may outweigh the risk of developing uterine tumor.

• Radiation Therapy

Women who have had previous radiation therapy in the pelvic area for another tumor have an increased risk of uterine tumor.

• Diet

Women who eat foods high in animal fat may have an increased risk of uterine tumor.

• Estrogen

The exposure and the imbalance of estrogen is increase the risk factor of uterine tumor. Women who started having their periods before age 12 and or go through menopause later in life may increase the risk of uterine tumor. Women who take hormone replacement therapy (HRT) after menopause, especially if they are only taking estrogen and the women who have never had children also increased the risk of uterine tumor.
